Band of the Marked (and Friends)
happy crazy-pants dragon :)
Orphaned as an egg, Aurora was discovered by human biologists in the woods of Ananti. As a young dragonet, she learned to transform into a human to look like her parents, and remained that way until puberty hit. Even so, she had a propensity for fire and destruction, as her parents soon learned to not build their house out of wood. When she was a hot-headed teenager, her parents sent her to the premier sorcerers academy in Amanth-Kor in the hopes that some magical training would instill a bit of caution in her. It has yet to be determined if this worked.
While in Amanth-Kor, one of the other students at the sorcerers academy found out that she was actually a dragon and connived to prove to the world that dragons still existed (at that time it was assumed that all dragons were either dead or had left the Ember Islands). Bitter animosity grew between them, with bad puns thrown all around, until he challenged her to a duel in the sorcerer’s ring which she, of course, accepted.
Ultimately, her pride led to her downfall – Aurora had underestimated her foe, her nemesis, as he had conjured a spell to force her to transform. In a state of emotional turmoil, with the entire sorcerer’s academy watching, she set fire to the pillars holding up the roof and cast as many spells as she could in order to destroy the arena. In the ensuing explosion she flew to safety with Snicklefritz, so that she would not be caught and dissected as a specimen of the past.
After several months of hiding in the woods, she joined forces with the Band of the Marked in their quest to defeat Mar, the notorious death god (sort of) who had broken free of her prison and was bringing things back from the dead. Befriending Elae, a stoic avenger elf, L’mora, a crazy jazzercising Tiefling, and Gwen, a snarky half-elf bard, led Aurora to become slightly more responsible and less obnoxious. She faced her nemesis again, who was now a necromancer, and eventually converted him into an ally who now helps her run the Magic Academy in Amanth-Kor.
In her adventures, she found the hidden dragon colony in the Ember Islands, who had also learned to transform into humans in order to not be killed off. Incidentally, Aurora had taught these same dragons how to do so in a crazy series of events involving time-travel back 900 years to meet with Kor himself and the original dragons of the Ember Islands. This was the trip in which Aurora officially befriended Elae and told her her name (previously, there was always some loud noise or event happening so she never got around to it).
After returning to her own time, she helped defeat the undead drago-lich Kor by leading groups of dragons and magic users working together. With Mar finally back in her place, winter left the land and things officially stayed dead. Huzzah! Once things settled down and rebuilding was under way, Aurora became the ambassador of the Ember Islands to the dragons and the southern continent. She set out with Elae to discover who had settled down there and what the dragons were like.
Enroute to the South, Elae and Aurora’s ship encountered a freak magical storm that caused their boat to sink. They flew the rest of the way, stopping at a pixie island and being teleported to land after swearing to never tell anyone about the pixies, for fear of stupid sneezing attacks. Aurora, of course, forgot all about this and subsequently attempted to tell numerous people about them, to her detriment.
After arriving on the southern continent, they met up with Nathanial’s cousin who they traveled with for a while. Unfortunately, they were attacked by Niogi slave traders and were captured. Aurora hates the underground and has tried to suppress these memories. When they finally made a break for it, they were joined by none other than the car-person Kazuki. They then finally had freedom and after some adventuring went to Havenstone to meet with representatives and be official ambassadors.
While in the south they were joined by a number of friends – Sariq and Muk, the psionics, as well as some epic guards such as Edmund and Rhett. They helped set up a teleport circle to the Ember Islands, as well as save the Temple of Ioun from creepy noodle monsters from the far realm. The devil guy Kazuki thought was cool actually wasn’t, so they had to go hunt him down and banish him from this plane. They also explored floating ruins, got some sweet stone golems, and helped set up the magic academy in the south. She also got to go to the Iounian library to research important things and meet with the blue dragons. Her initiation didn’t go completely according to plan, but at least she got in and was accepted. They seem pretty cool, for southern dragons.
Aurora also has her own lair and some minions to boot. She is excited about booby-trapping it and having tea parties with her friends there. Because what is a lair for, other than epic tea parties? She continues to research the different types of dragons in the south, such as the golden dragon and the dragon pentumvirate, and tries not to get on the bad side of the white dragons anymore. We’ll see how that pans out.
Recently, she has been on a quest to recover her memories about the death world, which she somehow lost. The details are a bit fuzzy, but it has something to do with the historian. She got a blank book from the whispering stones and a message to find the library it goes to, which has a depository somewhere on this plane. The mystery continues, to say the least.
Stay tuned to see what other disastrous and hilarious adventures Aurora finds herself in!
Here is a snapshot of a younger Aurora, when events had just begun.
(Imported from the old wiki)
Aurora was found as an egg by an adventuring human couple, who were living in the backwoods of northern Ananti doing research on plants and animals at the time. This blue spotted, mottled grey egg was lying in a bush off a stream and soon hatched after being brought home to their log cabin. To their utter surprise a tiny dragon popped out! She was dark blue with a silver underbelly and green eyes. As she grew older she began to transform into a human child with green eyes and silver hair once she recognized her human parents and wanted to be like them. From about the age of 2 to 13 she lived permanently as a human with no recollection of being a dragon.
However, once puberty hit she suddenly transformed with no warning into a 15 foot dragon! The change was certainly very surprising. Her parents were delighted and made a note of this in their scientific journals, after which they finally explained to her how they had found her and her unusual childhood. At this time, she also began to show her powers as a sorcerer, usually by accidentally levitating when she slept and setting things on fire. She also made friends with Snicklefritz, a small dragonling, who helped her to understand her draconic language abilities and other dragon powers. Her parents then sent her to Amanth Kor for training in sorcery, since they could no longer let her live in a wooden house with her pyrotechnic tendencies. With their warning to not transform for fear of scaring people, Aurora set off for a new life in the city.
At the sorcerer’s academy, she soon made many friends and a few enemies. One, who shall not be named here, found out her secret and was convinced to prove to the world that dragons still existed. Bitter animosity grew between them, with bad puns thrown all around, until he challenged her to a duel in the sorcerer’s ring. Unable to resist, she gladly accepted.
Ultimately, her pride led to her downfall – Aurora had underestimated her foe, her infamous nemesis, as he had conjured a spell to force her to transform. In such a state of emotional turmoil, with the entire sorcerer’s academy watching, she set fire to the pillars holding up the roof and cast as many spells as she could in order to destroy the arena. The roof fell down and in the ensuing chaos she flew to safety with Snicklefritz, so that she would not be caught and dissected as a specimen of the past.
Roaming the backwoods of Ananti again, she knew she could not go home for fear of shaming her human parents. With this in mind, she set out to find the last dragon colony and see what became of her noble people. And if she could find and kill her nemesis too, that would be an added bonus.
